What is plaquenil used for in lyme

It can decrease the pain and swelling of arthritis. It may prevent joint damage and reduce the risk of long-term disability.

Hi, I have lyme disease and have frequently been on plaquenil only in the summer as stronger drugs are used when I'm not in the sun and I've yet to experience this. But I do know that it is often used to prevent and treat malaria and that many drugs that deal with such things have a tendency to cause some crazy dreams. Azithromycin Zithromax 500 mg 1 pill 1 time a day, hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil 200 mg 1 pill 2 times a day, and metronidazole Flagyl 500 mg 1 pill 2 or 3 times a day. Key Points Since azithromycin is not as effective as other macrolides like clarithromycin, hydroxychloroquine is used to increase the effectiveness. Is it true that Plaquenil stays in your system for months after you discontinue using it? - I took it for a very short time, and I know it damaged my eyes, but everything I read says they have no proof of it hurting a persons eyes in a short amount of time. - Healthboards - Infectious Diseases - Lyme Disease Plaquenil

Today, it is used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, some symptoms of lupus, childhood arthritis (or juvenile idiopathic arthritis) and other autoimmune diseases. Hydroxychloroquine is in a class of medications that was first used to prevent and treat malaria.

I know minocycline is an antibiotic related to doxycycline, yet I looked plaquenil up and found that it is a DMARD, used to treat malaria, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. I found no connection to treating Lyme except that when used in combination with minocycline is affective at treating Lyme arthritis, and is fools insurance companies into thinking arthritis is exactly what is being treated. I was just prescribed plaquenil to treat the cyst form of lyme. The usage of the drug says it is to suppress the immune system in the treatment of lupus. Why would you want to do this if you have lyme. I thought steriods and drugs that suppress the immune system make treatment much slower.
