Methotrexate MTX, trade names Trexall™ and Rheumatrex™ is the most commonly used DMARD in the treatment of RA, in up to 80% of patients in some studies. MTX is a folic acid analog, which when administered in high doses blocks purine and pyrimidine synthesis. I was recently diagnosed with CNS Lups in July. My Rhuemy wants to put me on plaquenil and cellcept. I am scared and don't really want to start the drugs, but am really confused as to what to do. Aug 12, 2004 I am also taking Cellcept 2000mg along with Plaquenil 400mg and bextra 20mg, prednisone 10mg, DHEA 50mg and Synthroid.5mg. I have been on the Cellept about 2 months and I can't really tell any difference, except now I have nauseau.

  7. Between plaquenil and CellCept, my joint pains and sun reaction are no longer a problem. My Sjogrens dryness is improved as well. CellCept is a newer drug for our purpose, but it's the basic drug for patients with organ transplants. They take it in higher doses for life. I don't have Rx coverage on my insurance and I think CellCept is more $$ than MTX.

What is Cellcept? Cellcept has active ingredients of mycophenolate mofetil. It is often used in systemic lupus erythematosus. Check the latest outcomes from 28,955 Cellcept users, or browse all drugs. What is Plaquenil? Plaquenil has active ingredients of hydroxychloroquine sulfate. It is often used in systemic lupus erythematosus. Rather than put you on Cellcept, it makes far more sense to up your steroids 5 mg. And if Plaquenil isn't working, most docs STOP IT. It doesn't work for some patients. It didn't for me and I tried it 2X and 1X even Atabrine that turned me yellow. Cellcept is a BIG GUN drug, usually reserved for when patients fail on other stuff. Jul 06, 2016 Cellcept or Mycofenolate is for suppression of the immune system. Helps with the skin tightening and such. Plaquenil is for the arthritis and joints. Also take Losartin for blood flow due to the Reynauds.
